Contested Legacies: New Conversations
Showcasing the creative re-use of old buildings

13 June 2019, 18:15 - 21:00

Join us for an evening exploring how good new design can be used to revitalise neglected old buildings sympathetically and bring them back into use. The three winners of last year’s Philip Webb Award will present their winning schemes and discuss how they exemplify, interact with, even challenge the SPAB’s approach to new work in historic contexts.

Speakers are:
Chris Hamill – development of craft workshops and training initiatives at the former Armagh Gaol (1st place).
Rachael Moon - conversion of the former Pit Head Baths at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery into a community spa complex (2nd place).
Joe Copp – a concept for leisure use of Bristol Floating Harbour focusing on the fire-damaged Bristol United Brewery Malt House building (3rd place).

Talks will be followed by presentation of the winners’ certificates, exhibition of the winning schemes, and an informal drinks reception.
