Home Farm, St. Cross, Suffolk

This visit is to a 15th century timber framed hall house with a later decorative brick gable. Recent works have rescued it from dereliction.

Saturday March 30th, 1.30pm

Home farm is a fine timber framed hall house believed to date back in part to the first part of the 15th century or earlier. The decorative brick gable was probably added by the Jessop family in the 16th century and inside are the remains of several early wall paintings in the parlour and elsewhere. Until a few years ago Home Farm was in a derelict state and on the ‘At Risk’ register. Since then it has undergone substantial repair and conservation works. We will start with a presentation about the recently completed documentary research on the history of the house and then local craftsman Mike Frost, who project managed the works  will be our guide.

Cost: £8 per person
