Visit to the Brooking Collection and Cranleigh Village (afternoon)

Registration is closed for this event
Join our Kent & Surrey Group for a visit to the Brooking Collection, hosted by Charles Brooking. The collection includes artefacts from historic buildings that were being altered or demolished.

Saturday 21 May 2022 at 2.00pm

Charles Brooking is an architectural historian specialising in period building details. He has complied this collection of architectural details since the 1960s. The Museum houses artifacts from historic buildings that were being altered or demolished and have been selected to illustrate their evolution and development.

The Group will see items from the collection, and Charles will talk to us, highlighting the continuing loss of historic window and door details in our built environment across the country. Charles can give advice on windows, doors, decorative glass, fire grates and rainwater goods to give you clues on dating a property.

After or before the visit, there are plenty of places for lunch in Cranleigh village, about half a mile from the Museum. We will provide an information sheet of buildings in the village that are worth seeing.

Parking in The Drive is limited and so you may need to park in surrounding streets.

The charge for the event will be £20 per head which includes coffee/tea on arrival

Maximum number is 20 people and we have arranged two visits of 10 people, at 10.00am and 2.00pm, as the Museum is a cramped space. This entry is to book for the afternoon visit.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Kent and Surrey Regional Group
The group has run continuously since its foundation in 1994. We aim to hold around 10 to 12 events a year catering for a wide range of interest. Events include visits to buildings undergoing conservation and repair projects to allow members to see conservation in action, buildings and landscapes of historical and architectural interest, and visits to some of south east England’s most significant buildings including behind the scenes tours of Cathedrals, Royal Palaces and major military fortifications.
