Registration is closed for this event
Join stone mason Nic Boyes to hear about his work at George Heriots School, Edinburgh as part of our Conservation on the Edge series. Presented by SPAB Scotland

Conservation on the Edge of George Heriot’s School Old Building Terrace:

A presentation on the phased remedial works to the decorative masonry balustrade. Constructed in 1628, the balustrade has suffered numerous items of defect, damage and decay during over nearly 400 years of service including localised subsidence of terrace construction, physical impact by people and latterly vehicles, contour scaling of moulding detail and environmental pollution soiling. This presentation will describe the efficacy of designed remedial works to reverse identified items of defect damage and decay.

Nic Boyes is a Conservator accredited by The Institute of Conservation, with 30 years of experience in the conservation of historic structures, monuments, public sculpture and artefacts. Since 2016, Nic has traded as Stone Conservation Consultant, providing written advice, conservation strategy, project design, specification & trade procurement, project direction and quality control to various Clients.

This CPD is presented by SPAB Scotland to compliment our 'Conservation on the Edge' lecture series in celebration of our 25th anniversary in 2021. We hope you will be able to join us at one of the other events too!
