About the Session:

This session will look at some of the most common structural problems found with historic buildings and structures, diagnoses of these and then solutions, and put forward the philosophy of letting the building ‘tell you’ and minimum intervention.

About the Speaker:

Ed Morton is the Managing Director of The Morton Partnership, a firm of civil and structural engineers and historic building specialists, with some 35 employees. The company is renowned nationally and internationally for its conservation work. Ed has over 30 years experience working on historic buildings and projects and is an Engineer accredited in conservation through the CARE scheme run by the Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Structural Engineers.

Ed is Engineer to Canterbury Cathedral, York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Ely, Durham and Southwark Cathedral’s and is currently also working on projects at Coventry and St Paul’s Cathedral. Ed works extensively for The National Trust at properties including Bodiam, Scotney and Sissinghurst Castles, Chartwell, Knole, Stowe Landscape Gardens to name a few. He has been the structural engineer on two English Heritage major projects, Danson House and Charles Darwin’s house at Downe.
