\n The Grade II* St Michael's and G
rade I listed St Margaret's. Both churches are sma
ll and follow the style of the Black Mountains chu
rches. Despite their modest size both are renown
for the quality of their decorative interiors with
wall paintings at St Michael’s and carved rood sc
reen and loft at St Margaret’s.
The gr oup will meet at the Bridge Inn\, Michaelchurch Es cley\, where parking is available and walk the sho rt distance to St Michael's Church. The existing building is said to date from the 12th century but includes earlier fabric and wall paintings dating from the 13th Century. We will spend the morning exploring this church.
\n \nBuffet lunch at the Bridge Inn. The owners have also allowed us to use their carpark and WC facilities for the dur ation of the visit.
\n \nIn the afternoon we will drive the three miles on to St Margaret's where parking is available in the churchyard. We will explore the church with a tour from the inspe cting architect. The decorative features at St Mar garet's include the highly decorated 15th century rood screen and loft.
\n \nThe group will d isperse from here with recommendation on other nea rby churches and places of interest to visit.
\n \nPlease wear w

d shoes. We recommend bringing a raincoat or umbre
lla as part of it will be outdoors.
