 \n \n <p>Join the Sussex Group on a visit to the r
 estoration project at Madeira Terrace\, Brighton\,
  with an exclusive tour of the site led by JT Mack
 ley & Co\, the main contractor.</p>\n \n <p>At 865
  metres long\, the Grade II* listed Madeira Terrac
 e is\, to quote the listing description\, ‘very ra
 re being the only known\, land-based\, monumentall
 y scaled\, iron promenade in England\, and possibl
 y worldwide\, thought to be the longest continuous
  cast iron structure in Britain and probably the w
 orld’. It is ‘a bespoke and innovative structure u
 tilising the properties of wrought and cast-iron t
 o provide a decorative and technical solution in a
  challenging location’. It is in effect a pier tha
 t has run aground on the seafront\, providing shad
 e and shelter to promenaders.<br />\n  <br />\n Ph
 ase 1 of the Madeira Terrace restoration project\,
  started in 2024 and is now nearing completion. Th
 is involves the meticulous repair of 28 of the old
 est cast-iron arches.<br />\n <br />\n A represent
 ative of the main contractor JT Mackley & Co will 
 provide us with details of the project and answer
