 introduction to lime plastering – perfect for home
 owners and DIYers\, building custodians and specif
 iers. </p>\n \n <p>Our course venue is the custom-
 designed plastering studio at the National Trust’s
  <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/o
 xfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/heritage-and-
 rural-skills-centre" rel="noreferrer noopener" tar
 get="_blank">Heritage and Rural Skills Centre</a>\
 , where you’ll have your very own plastering bay t
 o practice throughout the course. We also keep our
  classes small and friendly\, so you’ll have plent
 y of attention from our course team. Tutors Sean W
 heatley and Michal Wolf are Master Plasterers with
  decades of experience working with lime. They wil
 l be joined by Marianne Suhr\, a chartered buildin
 g surveyor and co-author of the SPAB's Old House H
 andbook\, with assistance from the Durrant & Daugh
 ter team.</p>\n \n <p>If you live in or care for a
 n old house\, you’ll come away with the practical 
 skills you need to confidently tackle lime plaster
  repairs in your own home. </p>\n \n <h3>Who is it
  for? </h3>\n \n <p>This introductory course is fo
 r anyone interested in learning about plain lime p
 lastering for their home or old buildings under th
 eir care. We also welcome conservation officers\, 
 heritage consultants\, architects\, building surve
 yors and other specifiers too. </p>\n \n <h3>You w
 ill learn</h3>\n \n <p>By the end of the course\, 
 you will know:</p>\n \n <ul>\n 	<li>The basics of 
 working with lime\, including slaking\, mixing and
  sand selection.</li>\n 	<li>How to safely work wi
 th lime\, including the correct use of tools and P
 PE.</li>\n 	<li>How to fix laths and other substra
 tes you might encounter on the job.</li>\n 	<li>Th
 e correct technique for mixing and applying plaste
 rs\, including the base coat\, pricking up coat\, 
 float coat and setting coat.</li>\n 	<li>When and 
 how to use hydraulic lime.</li>\n 	<li>How to repa
 ir lime plaster cracks.</li>\n 	<li>How to limewas
 h.</li>\n </ul>\n \n <h3>You will need</h3>\n \n <
 ul>\n 	<li>Please wear warm\, comfortable clothing
  that you don't mind getting dirty or damaged. We 
 recommend you bring overalls or coveralls to wear 
 if you can. Your arms should be covered during the
  practical sessions.</li>\n 	<li>You will need to 
 wear sturdy (flat and closed) footwear for the pra
 ctical sessions\, and bring a spare pair of clean\
 , indoor shoes (flat and closed) for when using th
 e classroom space.  </li>\n 	<li>We will provide a
 ll necessary protective equipment\, but if you wou
 ld prefer to wear your own gloves and goggles\, pl
 ease bring them. </li>\n 	<li>All tools and materi
 als will be provided. If you would prefer to bring
  your own plastering tools – hawk\, trowel and wat
 er brush – please ensure they are labelled. </li>\

  lime</h4>\n \n <p>Michal is a Master Plasterer of
  the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers and a found
 er of All Things Lime. He is passionate about trad
 itional methods of working and keeping the craft o
 f lime plastering alive.</p>\n \n <h4>Marianne Suh
 r </h4>\n \n <p>Marianne is a chartered building s
 urveyor\, writer and broadcaster specialising in t
 he repair of historic buildings. Marianne is co-au
 thor of the SPAB's Old House Handbook and Old Hous

 a practical course held in a workshop environment\
 , which can be dusty\, cold and noisy. There are s
 ome uneven surfaces\, such as cobbles\, due to the

  and activities will require standing. </p>\n \n <
 p>Accessible parking spaces are marked in the car
