Information on Episode 3 : The Homeowners' Weekend

If you live in an old property, or are thinking about buying one, it can be daunting to find information and advice about the most sympathetic ways to repair it.

SPAB's weekend courses for owners of period properties have been running for 21 years now, offering information and reassurance to people who have taken on the challenging, but rewarding, task of working with an old building.

Delegates who have joined us for these popular weekends come from all walks of life and are the owners (or potential owners) of all sorts of buildings.

From charming beamy cottages and classic Victorian terraced houses to moated manor houses and even crenelated castles, they are united by the desire to do the right things for their home. Courses have taken place in many parts of the country covering the widest range of vernacular and regional styles.

SPAB's secretary, Philip Venning came up with the idea of running regular weekends for homeowners when he first came to SPAB. Prompted by the lack of information available when he was tackling renovation and repair projects of his own, he developed the idea of a weekend course to help and guide people in a similar situation.

In this podcast recorded at our recent London Homeowners' Weekend you can hear from some of the enthusiastic delegates who attended and more about the courses from Philip.
