Matthew Slocombe’s illustrated talk will be two talks in one: a brief history of row and terraced housing; and an overview of the history, work, ideas, campaigning and arguments of the SPAB since its foundation in 1877. There is no need to book in advance but the charge on the door is £5. Our members arrive for a chat in the café on the ground floor from about 6.30 pm onwards. This will be a digital presentation with opportunity for questions afterwards.
SPAB BBO Group Visit to Abingdon County Hall Museum

This guided tour of Abingdon County Hall offers an opportunity for up to 24 members to view the Grade 1-listed building in its present state, vacated in readiness for a £3.5m programme of urgently needed, extensive repair and conservation work due to be started in December 2010. Lauren Gilmour, curator of Abingdon Museum, will explain how this 17th-century building is to be adapted for the needs of the 21st century within the limitations of its Grade 1 listing. We will be divided into two groups, the second led by Peter Gale.
The tour will take about one hour. Parking in the town centre is free from 4 pm onwards.
