ABOUT THE COURSE:

Join the SPAB to celebrate 50 years of Conservation Areas and take a closer look at some of the hidden gems of Spitalfields and Bishopsgate.

Led by artist Jane Pycraft Tritton, this workshop is a unique opportunity to explore the edge of the historic City of London and look closer at the buildings, both new and old, which define the area. This is a workshop for sketchers, drawers, and doodlers of all abilities who would like to have a go at recording buildings in quick, simple sketches.

The workshop will begin at the SPAB headquarters, the only remaining Georgian house on Spital Square. Originally the house of a Huguenot silk merchant, it was rescued from dereliction by the Spitalfields Trust before being sold to the SPAB in the early 1980s. Participants will then have the opportunity to sketch in the nearby Conservation Areas of Bishopsgate and Spitalfields, two areas divided historically by London Wall and now on the boundary between the City of London and Tower Hamlets.

PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME

Participants will need to bring their own sketchbook and drawing materials, and are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes. The workshop will mostly be taking place outside so be prepared for the British summer!

N.B. Jane will be accompanied by her support dog, Tza Tza. Please speak to the Education Officer before you book if this is an issue.
