About the course

Questions about dampness, and how to deal with it, are some of the most frequent queries the SPAB receives from owners of period houses and those who work on historic building renovation and repair projects. Join us for this popular evening event to learn how to control damp and about the need for old buildings to breathe. Timber decay will also be addressed as it is commonly associated with dampness. You will learn how to deal with dry rot, wet rot, furniture beetle and death watch beetle.

A wine reception and open question session will conclude the formal presentations by Douglas Kent, SPAB Technical and Research Director, and Dr David Watt, Chartered Building Surveyor and Historic Buildings Consultant, giving you an opportunity for you to ask the experts for advice about your own building.

For more information, download the PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME - this may be subject to change.

This event will be held at the SPAB headquarters in London - an opportunity to view the inside of the only remaining Georgian house in Spital Square. The building dates from around 1740 and originally belonged to a Huguenot silk merchant. It was rescued from dereliction by the Spitalfields Trust before being sold to the SPAB in the early 1980s. SPAB publications will be available to buy, and discounted SPAB membership will be offered to those who join on the night. Places are strictly limited so book now!
